Throughout the campaign cycle you will hear a variety of topics raised: taxes, enrollment decline, out of county students taking classes at Butler, etc. The facts are important to consider when casting your vote on November 7th.
Reduction in Mill Levy
Butler Community College reduced it's mill levy from 19% to nearly 12% between 2020-2023. Butler remains one of the lowest major taxing entities in the county as well as among other community colleges in the state of Kansas.
Tiered Enrollment
Tiered enrollment means lower tuition for Butler County residents. Non-Butler County residents pay more and help Butler County students gain access to great academic programs.
Enrollment Concerns
Enrollment decline is a nationwide struggle. Some have proposed solutions like cutting Butler facilities that generate significant revenue. How can taxes be lowered if millions in other sources of revenue are eliminated?
